Outreach

Our Saviour’s has a long history of involvement with the needs of the greater Tucson community. We support several ministries of care, social agencies, and individuals through our efforts and our finances. We believe this is a natural response to our faith in Jesus Christ.

Global Missions/World Hunger
Coordinates the sale of fair exchange coffee on our patio weekly, CROP Walk with Church World Services, Lutheran World Relief Handcraft Project, support for the Navajo Lutheran Mission. Also supports Becky Johnson – our missionary doing HIV/AIDS education in South Africa, world hunger appeals and mission festivals at Our Saviour’s.

Habitat for Humanity

We support Habitat with both finances and volunteer labor.  Additionally, Habitat’s yearly “Homeowner Classes” are held in our Activity Building from October thru May on selected Tuesday evenings.

Casa Maria Soup Kitchen
Every six weeks, Our Saviour’s provides food for sack lunches and volunteer labor for feeding the homeless at Tucson’s Casa Maria Soup Kitchen.

Recent OSLC Volunteers at POZ Cafe

TIHAN & POZ Cafe  Our Saviour’s serves lunch once a year at POZ Cafe for 100+ people living in Tucson with AIDs and HIV.  This program serves a community that is often marginalized and helps to bring them together in a friendly and social environment as well as support them through donations of hygiene products.

Community Food Bank   Our Saviour’s supports Tucson’s Community Food Bank financially and with regular food donations.

Primavera
Our Primavera Cooks (a men’s outreach) pick up and prepare a feast for over 100 men at Primavera each month.  Baked chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy and home made bundt cakes are their specialty.  After they come together at the church to get it all cooked and ready, they deliver and serve at Primavera.  Guys are always welcome to help!

Advocacy
This is the work of being a voice for good policy for the poor and needy. Our Saviour’s is a member of the Pima County Interfaith Council and supports its efforts on behalf of faith communities of Tucson.

Easter and Thanksgiving Food Boxes
Food items and cash donations are collected each Easter and Thanksgiving for volunteers to assemble into food boxes which are then distributed to those in need.  Our volunteer coordinator works with nearby schools, neighborhoods and other churches to find those most in need.  Each food box contains boxed, canned and fresh foods–enough for a family of four for several days.  The rewards for volunteering to deliver these boxes are priceless!

Women of the ELCA
Several contributions and efforts are made throughout the year by our women’s ministry. See more in the Women’s Ministry section.

Fair Trade
Our Saviour’s supports the sale of fair trade goods which return the majority of the profits to the local third world producers. These include fair exchange coffee, tea and chocolate, as well as various craft and art items. Sold each week at 10:10am, on the patio between Sunday worship services, fair trade goods can also be purchased online through SERRV International.
